En el barrio m\u00e1s rico de Londres hay Ferraris, casitas de ensue\u00f1o, flores en los balcones, fachadas coloridas, y, de repente, un gran edificio de viviendas sociales calcinado, la Grenfell Tower, habitado hasta ayer por gente humilde.<\/p>\n

Este jueves, un d\u00eda despu\u00e9s de sufrir un incendio que dej\u00f3 al menos 17 muertos, el edificio de 24 plantas se asemejaba a un gran esqueleto alz\u00e1ndose hacia el cielo azul.<\/p>\n

A sus pies, tras el cord\u00f3n se seguridad, se percib\u00eda la solidaridad de los londinenses, mientras el viento tra\u00eda el olor a pl\u00e1stico quemado.<\/p>\n

Venidos de los cuatro rincones de la ciudad, los londinenses trajeron cajas de ropa, comida y agua. Bajo el puente de la autov\u00eda A40, que pasa cerca del edificio, unos voluntarios pugnaban por ordenar los donativos, hasta el punto de que las autoridades hicieron un llamamiento a no llevar nada m\u00e1s.<\/p>\n

\u201cSe nota un gran esp\u00edritu de solidaridad, sobre todo de la gente del barrio\u201d, constat\u00f3 Sarah Archer, de 34 a\u00f1os, haciendo cola ante una tabla de ping pong azul, punto de encuentro improvisado de los voluntarios.<\/p>\n

Alrededor de ella los vecinos van y vienen, entre ellos muchas mujeres con velo acompa\u00f1adas de ni\u00f1os.<\/p>\n

-\u2018Una fuerte mezcla\u2019-<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cLa gente se siente impotente, no sabe qu\u00e9 hacer y trae donativos\u201d, explic\u00f3 Sonia, una mujer argelina que acababa de consolar a una amiga que busca a su familia, de la que nada sabe desde el incendio.<\/p>\n

\u201cAqu\u00ed nos conocemos todos. Es un barrio muy mezclado, con musulmanes y no musulmanes, muchas familias con ni\u00f1os\u201d, explic\u00f3 esta mujer que la noche del drama pod\u00eda escuchar los llantos y gritos que sal\u00edan del edificio.<\/p>\n

La Torre Grenfell est\u00e1 en el distrito de Chelsea y Kensington, uno de los barrios m\u00e1s ricos del mundo, y en el que hay diferencias econ\u00f3micas notables.<\/p>\n

Basta caminar un poco para pasar de los coches y tiendas de lujo a zonas que no desentonar\u00edan en pa\u00edses pobres.<\/p>\n

El mi\u00e9rcoles, el ex primer ministro conservador David Cameron expres\u00f3 su \u201chorror\u201d al ver a su barrio golpeado de esta manera. Y es que Cameron vive a unos minutos del edificio, en el pr\u00f3spero y bohemio Notting Hill, muy famoso por la pel\u00edcula hom\u00f3nima de Julia Roberts y Hugh Grant, su carnaval y su mercado callejero de Portobello Road.<\/p>\n

-\u2018Muy indignado\u2019-<\/strong><\/p>\n

En realidad, Notting Hill es otro mundo, comparado con los alrededores de la Torre Grenfell Tower, rodeada de otros tres rascacielos de m\u00e1s de 20 plantas que, ahora m\u00e1s que nunca, no inspiran ninguna confianza de sus moradores.<\/p>\n

\u201cHace 23 a\u00f1os que vivo en esta torre y nunca me sent\u00ed seguro\u201d, confi\u00f3 Soran Karimi, de 31 a\u00f1os, recibiendo a la AFP en un edificio frente al de Grenfell. \u00c9l tampoco olvidar\u00e1 jam\u00e1s lo que vio y escuch\u00f3 a aquella noche.<\/p>\n

Hoy, \u201ccomo mucha gente del barrio\u201d, est\u00e1 \u201cmuy indignado\u201d. \u201cLas alarmas anti-incendio no funcionaban. Eso nunca hubiera ocurrido en Chelsea\u201d, el barrio afluente del mismo distrito. \u201cPero aqu\u00ed vive la clase obrera, gente de diferentes or\u00edgenes, a la que no se presta atenci\u00f3n\u201d, denunci\u00f3.<\/p>\n

Enterarse de que la primera ministra conservadora Theresa May visit\u00f3 el lugar el jueves le deja indiferente. \u201cViene solamente por la imagen, es una de las personas que recorta los presupuestos desde hace a\u00f1os\u201d, dijo este treinta\u00f1ero que espera que la elecci\u00f3n de una diputada laborista en las \u00faltimas legislativas cambie la suerte del distrito.<\/p>\n

\u201cEspero que esta tragedia cambie las cosas\u201d, ahond\u00f3 Nana Akuffo, de 46 a\u00f1os, que vive en otro de los grandes edificios y que nunca imagin\u00f3 que una cosa semejante pudiera ocurrir en \u201ccasa de los ricos\u201d.<\/p>\n

Entre sospechas de que el revestimiento instalado apenas una a\u00f1o en la fachada de la Torre Grenfell jug\u00f3 un papel en la r\u00e1pida expansi\u00f3n del fuego, Akala, un rapero y escritor del barrio, explic\u00f3 que lo colocaron \u201csolamente para que los ricos que viven enfrente tuvieran una vista m\u00e1s agradable de este edificio horrible\u201d, que ya casi no existe.<\/p>\n
